Prioritize and deliver across programmes and portfolios, covering PMBOK 7 delivery, OKR alignment, ISO 31000 risk, and agile backlog work.

Description

Organisations that struggle to finish projects are usually running more than they have people for, and every one was approved by someone reasonable. This course treats that as a portfolio problem rather than a delivery problem, covering single project discipline, strategic selection, agile prioritisation, OKR alignment, and risk.

This Course Offers

  • Single project delivery across ten PMBOK 7 lessons covering business case, charter, stakeholder analysis, scope, work breakdown, network diagram and Gantt, three stage budget, matrix environments, control, and closure
  • Strategic planning covering baseline assessment, stakeholder and gap analysis, running a two day strategy session properly, and turning output into a plan with owners and resources
  • Agile delivery focused on backlog prioritisation, including Kanban, sprint planning, story points, MVP scoping, and launch cadence
  • OKR as the alignment layer across programmes, covering the cycle, goal format, synchronisation, running and closing a quarter, and links to review and pay
  • Risk across ten lessons including ISO 31000, the risk heat map and hierarchy, escalation, the 4I model, cognitive biases in your own estimates, and the three lines of defence

Why We Love This Course

  1. Some exposure to running projects is expected, so it starts one level above single project delivery.
  2. No certification is needed, since PMBOK 7, Agile, and ISO 31000 are introduced from the beginning.
  3. Cognitive biases are covered, which explains why portfolio decisions go wrong predictably.
  4. Mike includes the Preply and iDeals OKR rollouts, noting both took two cycles before they worked.

Approving initiatives one at a time without looking at the total is how organisations end up with everything at priority one. Do you want to add another project, or decide which ones should exist? Enrollment is open, and a real portfolio to apply the exercises to is needed.

Course Eligibility

  • This course is perfect for project managers moving up to programmes, portfolios, or a PMO.
  • It suits PMO analysts and coordinators needing the whole picture.
  • Department heads, operations and transformation leads, product and delivery managers, and consultants working on prioritisation will find the portfolio view directly useful.

Course Requirements

  • Some exposure to running projects is expected, since this starts one level above single project delivery.
  • No certification is needed, as PMBOK 7, Agile, and ISO 31000 are introduced from the beginning.
  • A real portfolio, programme, or set of initiatives is needed to apply the exercises, along with a spreadsheet and English at intermediate level or above.
