Job Description

An American Citizen Services (ACS) Assistant is needed to provide passport, citizenship, and special consular services for U.S. citizens in the consular district. The role serves as a primary point of contact for U.S. citizens, maintains a network of public and private sector contacts, and assists with crisis preparedness and emergency messaging.

  • Job Location: Lagos, Nigeria
  • Salary: USD $25,357 per year
  • Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week), Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide passport, citizenship, and special consular services for U.S. citizens
  • Serve as one of the primary points of contact for U.S. citizens in the consular district
  • Maintain a network of public and private sector contacts who may be able to assist U.S. citizens
  • Communicate directly with citizenship applicants and U.S. citizens in distress
  • Assist in the preparation of emergency messaging and website updates
  • Work with the ACS Chief, consular officers, and other post staff on crisis preparedness and response
  • Perform administrative duties and support other consular section units as required

Required Skills

  • Completion of two years of college or university studies is required
  • Minimum two years of administrative work, case management, or customer service work experience is required
  • Fluent speaking, reading, and writing in English is required
  • Knowledge of local cultural, social, and legal environment
  • Knowledge and skills of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint are required
  • Must be able to act independently and exercise sound judgment at all times
  • Initiative, common sense, and tact are required to meet unexpected and unique situations
  • Discretion is required to uphold privacy rights of U.S. citizen customers
  • Must be able to maintain working relationships with local officials, including representing the post with high-level contacts
  • Must be able to work professionally and productively with contacts and customers from all backgrounds
  • All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a public trust clearance
  • Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization
