Tech Safari / Talent Safari • Nigeria • Full-Time (Remote)

Job Description

This Content Lead role focuses on writing Tech Safari's weekly feature edition, editing the work of newer writers and freelancers, and working with the Head of Growth and Editorial to decide what Tech Safari publishes next. The Lead will turn the business of African tech into timely, well-sourced stories across fintech, logistics, energy, health, agritech, policy, and capital. Day-to-day work covers research, writing, editing, and format development in a full-time remote role open to candidates anywhere in Africa.

  • Job Location: Remote (Nairobi or Abuja preferred)
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Salary: Not stated

About the Company

Tech Safari is navigating the future of African tech through a newsletter that keeps more than 60,000 founders, investors, operators, and business leaders informed on African business and technology, read by teams at companies including Paystack, Flutterwave, Mastercard, Meta, and McKinsey. Beyond media, the company helps companies scale across Africa through events, a talent business, and advisory work. Its media portfolio includes Tech Safari (flagship newsletter), Ag Safari (agritech community), and The Big Move (platform for diaspora-led innovation), alongside Talent Safari and the Tech Safari and Ag Safari Summits.

Key Responsibilities

Writing and research

  • Research and write Tech Safari's weekly feature edition on the business and economy of African tech, filing on time every week
  • Write at least one edition of The Big Move each month
  • Find stories before they become obvious, using own sources, company filings, funding data and conversations with founders, investors, operators and regulators
  • Cover a range of sub-sectors and regions so Tech Safari does not become a newsletter about one country or one kind of company

Editing

  • Edit Tech Safari's weekly roundup, This Week in African Tech, before it goes out
  • Edit pieces from junior writers and freelance contributors, giving feedback that makes them better writers rather than simply rewriting their work
  • Help review pitches that come in through the open pitch programme

Formats, growth and readers

  • Work with the Head of Growth and Editorial to develop new formats, new content pillars and new ways to raise engagement across the newsletters
  • Reply to readers who write in about editions and use their feedback to improve the next edition
  • Bring ideas for how Tech Safari's journalism can work as podcasts, video, and other formats
  • Read Tech Safari, Ag Safari and The Big Move closely to keep voice and standards consistent where they overlap

Required Skills

  • At least four years of experience writing about business, technology, or economics, with published work you reported and wrote yourself
  • Experience editing other people's writing, whether as an editor, a section lead, or a writer who reviewed colleagues' drafts
  • Already knows people in African tech and can get a founder, investor, or policy official on the phone when a story needs them
  • Understands how African tech companies make money, raise money, and fail, and can explain that to a smart non-specialist reader
  • Meets deadlines without being chased and says early when a story is at risk
  • Communicates clearly in writing and on calls
  • Can write without relying on AI to produce drafts
  • Curious about podcasts, video, and other media with opinions about what makes them work
  • Adapts quickly when a story breaks, a plan changes, or a format is not working
  • Has read Tech Safari, Ag Safari, and The Big Move before applying
  • Newsletter experience with open rates, replies, and subscriber growth is nice to have
  • Comfort with funding data, company reports, and simple spreadsheets is nice to have
  • Reporting from more than one African market is nice to have
  • Experience with beehiiv or a similar newsletter platform is nice to have

Why This Job Might Be a Good Fit
This role suits a mid-level business or tech journalist who wants editorial ownership of a leading African tech newsletter rather than reporting for a traditional publication. Because the position covers research, editing, and format development, it builds a portfolio of in-depth African tech analysis that transfers across media, communications, and advisory roles.
