The Data & Research Analyst will source, verify, clean, and structure health and education data for publication, supporting state profiles, comparisons, dashboards, and data stories.

CivicIntel is a public-interest data and civic engagement initiative building a trusted data layer for civic life in Africa. The organisation brings together credible public data, verifies and contextualises evidence, and makes it accessible to citizens, journalists, researchers, and civil society organisations. Its work environment is lean and hands-on, with a strong emphasis on data quality, publication standards, and accountability.

• Source and verify health and education data from official and credible sources.
• Clean, structure and maintain datasets for publication.
• Investigate and reconcile discrepancies across sources.
• Prepare source and methodology notes.
• Support state profiles, comparisons, dashboards and data stories.
• Work closely with the Health & Education Research Interns.

• Degree in Statistics, Public Health, Economics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong working knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets and working knowledge of SQL.
• Practical experience with datasets such as NDHS recodes, DHIS2 exports or EMIS workbooks.
• Ability to clean, structure, analyse and verify data.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to investigate discrepancies.
• Ability to trace published figures to their original sources and understand data limitations.
• Ability to prepare clear source and methodology notes.
• Strong judgement about data quality and publication standards.
