The Digital Content Producer will produce compelling video journalism from concept to publication by identifying stories, building source networks, filming, editing scripts, presenting on camera, and optimizing content for digital platforms while maintaining BBC editorial standards within the organisation’s Nigeria operations.

About the Company

The BBC World Service is hiring Digital Content Producers/Reporters for its newly established Nigeria Language Services Unit. This permanent role supports BBC Pidgin, BBC Yoruba, and BBC Igbo as they evolve into digital-first, video-led newsrooms serving audiences across Africa and the diaspora with high-quality visual journalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce end-to-end video journalism including ideation, filming, editing, and publishing
  • Identify original stories and build trusted source networks for exclusive reporting
  • Write scripts, present on camera when required, and edit footage for digital distribution
  • Optimize content for specific platform formats including vertical, square, and horizontal video
  • Collaborate closely with editors, designers, and newsroom colleagues on story development
  • Experiment with new storytelling formats while adhering to BBC editorial guidelines
  • Apply SEO analytics and audience behavior insights to maximize content reach and engagement
  • Ensure strict compliance with copyright laws and content safety standards
  • Maintain accuracy, fairness, and professionalism in fast-moving reporting environments

Required Skills

  • Strong experience in filming, video editing, and visual storytelling independently
  • Ability to produce engaging digital content using industry-standard editing tools
  • Solid understanding of platform-specific strategies for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Knowledge of audience behavior, SEO analytics, and social media trends
  • Excellent editorial judgment with commitment to accuracy and impartiality
  • Sound knowledge of copyright regulations and content compliance frameworks
  • Confidence working in fast-paced breaking news environments under pressure
  • Passion for visual journalism and serving African audiences authentically
  • Residency in one of the specified Nigerian states (Lagos, Abuja, Oyo, Kano, Rivers, Anambra)
