PlantVillage Nigeria is hiring a Field Officer to support our growing work in rice-producing communities across Nigeria, focused on the rice value chain, sustainable agriculture, and climate solutions.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience working with rice mills, rice farmer cooperatives, agribusinesses, or aggregation networks, strong relationships within local farming communities, and the ability to support field-based promotion and adoption of biochar fertilizer.

• Build and manage relationships with rice mill owners, farmer groups, and cooperatives
• Support sourcing and coordination of rice residues (husks, straw)
• Lead community engagement activities, trainings, and field demonstrations 
• Support farmer onboarding and adoption of biochar-based fertilizers
• Support field-level promotion and sales of biochar fertilizer to farmers and farmer groups
• Act as the local point of contact for PlantVillage Nigeria's field operations
• Collect and report field data using mobile tools

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in the rice value chain, rice mills, or community-based agricultural projects
• Agronomy or agriculture-related background (formal training or strong field experience) is highly beneficial
• Strong local networks within rice-producing communities in Nigeria
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively within rural areas
• Ability to explain agricultural inputs and practices to farmers in a clear, practical way
• Basic digital literacy, with the ability to use mobile applications such as the PlantVillage
• App and ODK for data collection and reporting
• Fluency in English and at least one relevant local language
• Experience with development projects or agricultural value chains is a plus
