Job Description

The Inventory / Cost Control Officer will ensure effective inventory control, cost monitoring, and material accountability across construction sites, working closely with site administrators, procurement, and finance teams.

  • Salary: ₦200,000 – ₦250,000 net

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Manage and maintain accurate records of all materials received, issued, transferred, returned, and consumed on site.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate stock is maintained without overstocking.
  • Conduct periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile variances with system records.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory register for all construction materials and consumables.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and security of all site materials.

Cost Control

  • Verify labour and material invoices against approved purchase orders, delivery notes, work completed, and contractual agreements before processing for payment.
  • Monitor project material consumption against approved budgets and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
  • Identify cost overruns, unusual material consumption, and potential areas of waste or loss.
  • Prepare periodic cost control and material utilisation reports for Management.

Material Usage & Wastage Control

  • Track material usage on each project and ensure materials are utilised efficiently.
  • Monitor material issuance to contractors and artisans and ensure proper accountability.
  • Investigate material variances, shortages, and losses, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Implement measures to minimise wastage and improve material utilisation across project sites.
  • Ensure unused or surplus materials are properly accounted for and returned to inventory where applicable.

Site Coordination

  • Work closely with the Site Administrator to maintain accurate documentation relating to inventory movements and material requests.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement Department to ensure timely replenishment of stock and proper material planning.
  • Liaise with Site Engineers to verify material requirements, usage, and project progress.
  • Support Internal Control during inventory verification and asset audits.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with the Company's inventory management procedures, procurement policies, and internal controls.
  • Maintain complete documentation supporting inventory transactions and invoice verification.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory and cost control reports.
  • Escalate discrepancies, suspected theft, misuse of materials, or policy violations promptly.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Accuracy of inventory records.
  • Percentage reduction in material wastage.
  • Invoice verification turnaround time.
  • Inventory variance rate.
  • Material reconciliation accuracy.
  • Timeliness of inventory and cost reports.
  • Compliance with inventory and procurement procedures.
  • Reduction in project material losses.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in Inventory Management, Cost Control, Procurement, or Supply Chain Management are an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in inventory management, cost control, quantity surveying, procurement, or construction site operations.
  • Experience within the construction or real estate industry is highly preferred.
  • Strong inventory management and reconciliation skills.
  • Cost analysis and budgeting knowledge.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong knowledge of invoice verification and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory management systems.
  • Good understanding of construction materials and site operations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong integrity, accountability, and problem-solving ability.
