Job Description

The IT Intern will understudy IT processes, provide administrative support, ensure timely first- and second-level support, support ICT environment administration, monitor LAN and internet connectivity, manage server logs and security, and manage IT inventory. This role requires a graduate-level or second degree in Computer Science or a related IT discipline with a minimum of two years' post-NYSC experience.

The British Council is offering students and graduates an experiential learning opportunity to gain real-world experience through an internship programme. The practical experience gained is expected to complement theoretical knowledge and increase employability skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understudy and learn IT processes and vendor management through interactions with other IT staff.
  • Provide basic administrative support for IT-related activities.
  • Ensure timely first- and second-level support to ensure seamless operations.
  • Escalate problems/issues to relevant teams and follow up to facilitate effective communications.
  • Support the implementation of local projects in conjunction with GIS and the Nigeria ICT team.
  • Support administration, implementation, and upgrades of the overall ICT environment.
  • Ensure 24/7 availability of Local Area Network (LAN) and Internet connectivity.
  • Monitor all server (MS 2016) logs, services, performance, disk space, and take corrective action.
  • Ensure systems are secured from external threats like hacking/virus attacks.
  • Ensure restricted access to server rooms and physical security of IT equipment.
  • Organise routine weekly/monthly/quarterly IT checklist exercises.
  • Implement approved updates/upgrades within agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure 'correct first time' installation of standard and approved software.
  • Enhance business processes via suggestions for improvements and new functionality.
  • Manage IT inventory (software and hardware).
  • Manage the wifi access network.

Required Skills

  • Graduate-level or second degree education in Computer Science or a related IT discipline.
  • A minimum of two years' relevant work experience post-NYSC is required.
  • Hardware and software support.
  • Networking fundamentals.
  • Service Desk Support.
  • Operating systems.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated interest in ICT.
  • Role holder must have existing rights to live and work in Nigeria.
