Job Description

As Junior Reporter I (Culture), you will support the development and delivery of culture reporting for one of our editorial brands. You will help identify, research, and develop stories that explain the ideas, behaviours, conversations, and creative expressions shaping how people live, relate, and make sense of the world around them. This role is fully remote.

  • Salary: ₦190,000 – ₦220,000 per month

Key Responsibilities

  • Report and develop culture stories across assigned editorial platforms
  • Identify, pitch, and contribute to timely and meaningful culture story ideas
  • Track developments across music, film, internet culture, youth trends, identity, relationships, religion, language, and other areas
  • Research, verify, and develop stories with care and factual accuracy
  • Produce well-structured culture story packages including written reports, video scripts, carousel copy, and related editorial outputs
  • Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and Content Editor to strengthen reporting
  • Contribute to explainers, interpretive pieces, and other culture-led editorial projects

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a reputable university
  • Must have completed NYSC at the time of application
  • 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in journalism, reporting, editorial, or a related media role
  • Demonstrable experience covering culture, entertainment, internet trends, youth behaviour, identity, media, or related subject areas
  • Strong writing ability with evidence of producing clear, engaging, well-structured editorial work
  • Good understanding of the Nigerian cultural environment
  • A portfolio of relevant published work demonstrating culture reporting or explanatory journalism
  • Access to a reliable laptop and internet connection suitable for remote work
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Trello, or Notion
