This role provides exposure to legal operations, corporate governance, stakeholder engagement, compliance, and strategic business support activities.

About the Company

The British Council is offering a 12-month internship in Lagos as a Legal Executive Assistant, focused on providing legal, governance, compliance, and executive administrative support to the General Counsel & Company Secretary. This role is designed for recent graduates seeking hands-on experience in legal operations and corporate governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing, formatting, and proofreading legal, governance, and business documents.
  • Managing document repositories, SharePoint sites, and filing systems.
  • Coordinating Senior Leadership Team projects, meetings, and workshops (including logistics, diary management, minute-taking, and follow-ups).
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement activities, including visits, partnerships, and executive events.
  • Handling correspondence on governance, sponsorships, partnerships, and legal enquiries.
  • Assisting with audits, compliance, risk management, and contract administration.
  • Supporting data protection and information governance activities.
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and briefing materials.
  • Promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and safeguarding policies.

Required Skills

  • Recent graduate (within the last 3 years).
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Discretion with confidential information.
  • Good time management and scheduling skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English.
