The Local Content Associate will serve as Tetra Maritime’s primary point of contact in Abuja by meeting regularly with government officials, regulators (including NIMASA, NPA, and Customs), and industry stakeholders to ensure compliance with maritime and trade regulations. This hands-on, mobile role involves preparing and following up on documentation, permits, and approvals while building strong relationships across the sector and monitoring developments in the Nigerian oil and gas market to keep the global group informed and compliant.

Tetra Maritime is the Nigerian operating platform of Union Maritime Limited, an international shipping group established in 2006 with a diversified fleet of circa 100 vessels across tanker and dry bulk sectors. Serving as the group’s principal presence in Nigeria, Tetra supports vessels and cargoes across Nigerian and West African trades while maintaining close proximity to government bodies, regulators, and agencies central to its operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as local point of contact in Abuja for meetings with government officials, regulators, and authorities.
  • Prepare, submit, and follow up on documentation, permits, and approvals to ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian maritime and trade regulations including Cabotage, Local Content, and customs requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across government bodies, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor developments in the Nigerian oil and gas sector and report on opportunities or regulatory changes.
  • Liaise effectively with operations teams in Lagos and commercial teams in London.
  • Represent the group credibly and professionally in all official dealings and negotiations.
  • Track multiple approval deadlines and priorities simultaneously to prevent operational delays.

Required Skills

  • Good working knowledge of Nigerian government processes, approvals, and Local Content requirements.
  • Established network among Nigerian authorities, agencies, oil and gas contacts, or proven ability to build one quickly.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and move between government offices and agencies across Abuja and wider country.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience in government liaison, regulatory affairs, or compliance.
  • Background in shipping, oil and gas, logistics, or related sector is highly preferred.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management for tracking multiple approvals and deadlines.
  • Clear, credible written and verbal communication with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
