Job Description

The Plant Safety Officer will ensure the health and safety of all construction workers and plant operators at the Sagamu facility by implementing risk assessments, monitoring PPE usage, and managing contractor safety. This role involves conducting incident investigations, maintaining safety records, providing emergency response support, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and industry best practices within a renewable energy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Implement risk assessments and control measures for identified hazards.
  • Monitor usage and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safety standards.
  • Keep comprehensive safety records including incident reports, inspections, and training logs.
  • Attend safety meetings and provide expert input on safety-related issues.
  • Provide support for emergency response procedures and conduct regular drills/exercises.
  • Monitor waste management practices to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Manage contractor safety through audits and compliance verification.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes regarding workplace health and safety.
  • Assist in developing and implementing safety programs to promote a safe work environment.
  • Continuously identify and report hazards, unsafe actions, and conditions.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of HND/B.Sc. in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in the manufacturing sector or related industry.
  • Experience implementing and enforcing safety programs and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of HSE practices, relevant safety regulations, and best practices.
  • HSE Level 3 certification is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and highly motivated demeanor.
  • Willingness to undertake shift operations as required.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous learning.
  • Candidates residing in or close to Sagamu will be given preference.
