Our Client is an Engineering Construction Company seeking qualified and experienced Plant/Equipment Supervisor to join their growing team. The organization handles end-to-end engineering, building, and infrastructure projects across multiple locations in Nigeria, delivering high-quality commercial and industrial construction solutions.

Job Description

The Plant/Equipment Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating, supervising, and ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and availability of construction equipment and machinery used across commercial and industrial building projects. The role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports seamless project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations, deployment, and utilization of construction equipment and heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, cranes, loaders, mixers, generators, compactors).
  • Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability and optimal performance.
  • Conduct regular inspections of plant and equipment to identify defects, malfunctions, and safety issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, fuel consumption, maintenance history, and downtime reports.
  • Ensure all equipment is operated safely and in compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. 
  • Supervise equipment operators, mechanics, and technicians, ensuring they adhere to operational guidelines.
  • Assist in the procurement and sourcing of spare parts, tools, and consumables required for equipment upkeep. 
  • Coordinate equipment logistics between various project sites and ensure timely mobilization/demobilization.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of plant operators and technical staff, providing feedback and training where required.
  • Liaise with site engineers, project managers, and contractors to align equipment needs with project plans.
  • Ensure proper documentation for equipment leasing, rentals, and third-party maintenance services when applicable.
  • Implement cost-control measures to minimize equipment-related expenses and avoid unnecessary downtime.
  • Ensure proper storage, security, and housekeeping of equipment yards and workshop areas.

Required Skills

  • HND/B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience supervising plant, machinery, or heavy equipment operations in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction machinery operations, maintenance procedures, and diagnostic techniques.
  • Proficiency in using equipment management software or maintenance tracking tools is an added advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical diagrams, and maintenance reports.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and people management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian safety regulations and construction standards.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work at multiple project locations across Nigeria.
