Printed Magazine Layout Designer (Remote, Freelance)

The Love Dispatch . u/bookandbark (Via Reddit)NigeriaFreelance

About the Company

The Love Dispatch is a wedding journalism studio that creates custom printed magazines telling each couple’s story through long-form narrative journalism, professional photography, and editorial design. Each magazine is a physical keepsake capturing what it felt like to be in the room from perspectives the couple never gets to hear.

Job Description

I run a wedding journalism studio called The Love Dispatch. I handle the interviews, writing, and editorial direction. I need a designer who can build me a better home for all of it. I've completed my first proof-of-concept magazine (58 pages) and now want to evolve the layout to match a luxury editorial product.

  • Job Location: Remote
  • Employment Type: Freelance / One-time project (with potential for future work)
  • Budget: $500 – $1,000+ (open to proposals based on experience and scope)

Key Responsibilities

What I Need
A complete Adobe InDesign magazine template system including:

  • Cover
  • Table of contents
  • 8–10 interior layout variations (chapter openers, narrative spreads, photo-dominant pages, gallery grids, pull quote transitions, sidebar treatments, single-column passages, list-style pages)
  • Vendor credits spread
  • Well wishes page
  • Editor’s note
  • Back cover

Typography & Design Vision

  • The magazines should feel like standalone publications, not branded marketing collateral — the kind of thing you’d find on a coffee table.
  • Reference points: Vanity Fair long-form, NYT wedding announcements, early Vogue.
  • Refined without being cold; warm without being precious.
  • Serif-forward for both body text and headlines (cohesive, not mixing serif display with sans-serif body).
  • Timeless and versatile enough to hold any love story without imposing a single aesthetic.

Deliverables

  • Complete InDesign template package (.indt or .indd) with all layout variations.
  • Organized master pages and style sheets.
  • One or more rounds of revisions.

Required Skills

  • Editorial magazine or publication design in portfolio (print especially).
  • Strong InDesign skills — master pages, paragraph/character styles, object styles.
  • Understands the difference between “pretty” and “editorial.”
  • Comfortable designing for print (CMYK, bleed, trim marks).
  • Can take specific, detailed feedback and iterate.

How to Apply
Interested designers should share:

  1. 2–3 portfolio samples of editorial or magazine layout work.
  2. A brief note on your thoughts of the existing magazine — showing you understand where I'm trying to go.
  3. Your estimated timeline and rate.
