The Research Assistant / Data Analyst will conduct quantitative and qualitative research on Nigeria’s democratic institutions while providing analytical reporting and program support for governance initiatives. This role requires strong proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and knowledge of research methodologies to analyze governance issues, prepare evidence-based reports, and support data-driven advocacy efforts with an understanding of Nigeria's political systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on governance and democratic issues.
  • Prepare detailed analytical reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Provide program support for ongoing governance and democracy initiatives.
  • Collect, clean, and manage datasets using Excel, Google Sheets, or statistical software.
  • Apply both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies effectively.
  • Monitor trends in Nigeria’s democratic institutions and civic space.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, presentations, and technical documents.
  • Collaborate with team members to translate data into actionable insights.

Required Skills

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets for data management.
  • Experience with SPSS, STATA, or Power BI is a significant advantage.
  • Good writing and analytical skills with ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies: both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Understanding of Nigeria’s democratic institutions and political structures.
  • Familiarity with current governance issues and civic actors in Nigeria.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Statistics, Economics, Sociology, or related field.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict research deadlines.
