The Trainee Third Officer will assist the deck team onboard the ship and carry out all duties as prescribed by the master. Responsibilities include understudying and assisting the Second Officer, assisting with cargo operations, stability, ballast operations, moorings and ship security during watch, maintaining deck portable firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliances, completing records of on-board training, acting as nominated officer for the GMDSS station, and carrying out lawful commands from the Master.

• The Trainee Third Officer understudies and assists the Second Officer

• The Individual is responsible for the safety of all personnel working for him.
• The individual is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all deck portable firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliances.
• The Individual is responsible to the Master for the completion of records of on-board training.
• Where required shall act as nominated officer for the GMDSS station with responsibility for associated tests and records.
• The individual is responsible for the upkeep of the Recreational and Technical library.
• The Trainee Third Officer must carry out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Master.

• Have a minimum of OOW Deck Certificate of Competency issued by any of the listed maritime agencies/authorities.
